The Graduation Mass

For those graduating this summer, this special Mass will be celebrated in Saint Mungo’s Church on Sunday 1 July at 7.00 p.m.

The Graduation Mass is followed by a reception in the parish hall. As well as being a time to thank God for his guidance during our years at university, it also gives a chance to those who are graduating to celebrate the graduation with their families and friends.

Wise words from Pope John Paul II

I, too, was 20, like you. I enjoyed sports, skiing, acting. I studied and I worked. I had desires and worries. In those years, now so long ago, when my native Land was wounded by war and then by the totalitarian regime, I sought the meaning to give to my life. I found it in following the Lord Jesus.

Dear young woman, dear young man, youth is the period in which you wonder what to do with your life, how to contribute to making the world a little better, how to encourage justice and build peace. Do not tire of training yourselves in the difficult discipline of listening. Listen to the voice of the Lord who is speaking to you through the events of daily life, through the joys and sufferings that go with it, the people who are close to you, the voice of your conscience thirsting for truth, happiness, goodness and beauty. If you are able to open your hearts and minds with generosity, you will discover "your vocation", in other words, the plan that God in his love has devised for you from eternity. --Pope John Paul II in June, 2004

Sedes Sapientiae, Ora Pro NobisIn Spring, 2004 Pope John Paul II asked us to welcome the Icon Sedes Sapientiae (far right) which presents to us Christ the Wisdom of God as 'teacher and pilgrim in the university campuses of the world'. It had already been in Greece, Russia, South America, central Europe and, most recently, Ireland. From Caledonian, the Icon went to Paisley and then continued its journey in Scotland, going on to Oxford in October to begin a circuit of the English universities.

At present there is no fixed "home" for the Chaplaincy while we wait for the new Learning Centre to be built. In the meantime, the Chaplaincy has been assigned a room in the Accomodation Building at Caledonian Court which we hope to begin using in the near future.

Students are especially welcome to join us at the local parish, Saint Mungo's, which is about 5 minutes walk from the Campus, beside the Powerleague Five-a-side Soccer.
